Dr Somaia Elsheikh – Speciality-Dermatopathology

Dr Somaia Elsheikh began her Histopathology career in 2000 and completed a Master’s Degree in Molecular Pathology. Throughout her career, Dr Elsheikh has contributed to some extremely important studies. For example, in 2015 she helped to establish the Nottingham Melanoma Research Group, which focuses on identifying risk and treatment response predictors for melanoma patients and now has one of the largest and well characterised melanoma tissue microarrays in the UK.

Dr Elsheikh has also been involved in a number of projects relating to skin cancers.

Dr Noreen Akhtar – Non Gynae Cytology

Dr Arthur is a consultant Histopathologist with a special interest in dermatopathology, breast and gynaecology pathology. She is currently completing a surgical pathology fellowship with a focus on breast pathology at the University of Alberta, Edmonton.

Dr Trevor Flood – Urology Speaker

Dr Flood attended The Ottawa University for both medical school and residency (in Anatomic Pathology). Following this he completed a Fellowship at Harvard Medical School, working in The Brigham Women’s Hospital in Genitourinary Pathology. He is now an Associate Professor in Anatomical Pathology and the Genitourinary Subspeciality Lead at the Ottawa Hospital.

Specialities/ Research Interests – Identifying morphologic and molecular prognostic features in prostate, kidney, penile and bladder cancers. Several of his research projects have focused on various histologic features recognized in biopsies and/or oncologic resections that ultimately correlate with tumour stage, disease recurrence, and cancer specific mortality. Dr Flood has a particular interest in using technology as a tool in Pathology.

Dr Muhammad Shafiq Gill – Management Station

Dr Gill is a Consultant Histopathologist & Divisional Medical Director at The University Hospitals, Derby & Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is also the chair of Royal College of Pathology panel of examiners and the chair of the Midlands Histopathology CESR/Portfolio group.

Dr Asma Haider – Soft Tissue Pathology

Dr Rand Hawari – Gynae Pathology

Qualifications – MBBS, FRCPath, CHAT, CHCCT, Diploma clinical Dermatology.

Dr Hawari is an expert pathologist in the areas of Dermatopathology and Cytology and is based at the Royal Derby Hospital UK. Her areas of interest include Molecular Pathology and teaching and she also has substantial expertise in the fields of cervical and respiratory cytology.

Dr Marium Khan – Endocrine Pathology

Dr Marium Khan is a consultant histopathologist and lead Endocrine Pathologist for Nottingham University Hospitals. She is also a senior college examiner.

Dr Bipin Mathew – Dermatopathology Inflammation

Bipin is a consultant Dermatopathologist at Leeds Teaching Hospital’s NHS Trust and an honorary lecturer University of Leeds.

He is the Pathology Co-Lead for North East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub as well as the Training Programme Director in Yorkshire and Humberside.

Dr Abhik MukherjeeSpeciality – GI Pathology and Molecular Pathology

Dr Abhik Mukherjee studied Medicine and trained in Radiation Oncology at Calcutta University; and completed an MSc and PhD in Oncology from the University of Nottingham. After attaining his FRCPath by exam in 2015, he became a Clinical Associate Professor, Honorary Consultant and clinical team lead in GI/HPB pathology at Nottingham University. Currently, he is the chair of the Education subcommittee of the Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland and deputy chair of the NCRI Pathology group.

Dr Gayatri Raghuram Speciality – Gastro-Intestinal Pathology

Dr Raghuram is a consultant histopathologist at Nottingham University Hospital NHS trust.

She specialises in GI, HPB, Head & Neck and Endocrine pathology.

Dr Emad Rakha – Breast Pathology

Dr Rakha is a Clinical Associate Professor and Honorary Consultant Pathologist for The University of Nottingham and Nottingham University Hospitals. Emad has authored over 190 peer-reviewed publications, and several chapters in medical and pathology textbooks in the field of breast disease. His main area of interest is molecular and prognostic classification of breast cancer, DNA damage repair defects in breast cancer, HER2 and ER-related pathways as well as the characterisation of rare breast entities.

Dr Malcolm Reed – Head and Neck Pathology

Dr Malcom Reed is a consultant Histopathologist who has a specialist interest in head and Neck Pathology. Dr Reed has over 30 years of experience.

Dr Irshad Soomro – Respiratory

Dr Irshad Soomro is a consultant Histopathologist who has a specialist interest in Thoracic Pathology. Over his career Dr Soomro has written a tissue pathway document in non-neoplastic pulmonary pathology at the instruction of the Royal College of Pathology, contributed to several publications on lung and oesophageal cancers and his PHD project was on lung cancer.

Dr Vishakha Sovani – Hematology

Dr Sovani is a consultant Hematopathologist at NUH and has over 15 years’ experience as a consultant. She is the clinical lead for the Hematological Malignancy Diagnostic service in Nottingham and is also the secretary to the British Lymphoma Pathology Group (BLPG).

She is also a co-author for a book on Bone Marrow Pathology which was released in 2024.

Dr Anu Wiley – Renal Pathology

Dr Dua Abuquteish – Paediatric Pathology

Dr Abuquteish is an Assistant Professor at Hashemite University in Jordan and works at King Hussein Cancer Centre.

After completing her Pathology residence, Dr Qtaish then completed three years of Gastrointestinal / Liver fellowship for paediatrics and adults at Mount Sinai Hospital. She is also a member of the Canadian Paediatric / Perinatal Club and her research interests include paediatric and adult Wilson Disease, paediatric inflammatory bowel disease and AI in Pathology.

Dr Abed Zaitoun – Frozen Pathology

Dr Zaitoun is both a senior GI consultant at Nottingham University Hospitals and an Honourary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham. He has over 25 years of experience with frozen sections.
